4th DAN AWARD FOR EAST NEUK INSTRUCTOR

Steve Mackay, instructor of Waid karate club in Anstruther was recently awarded his 4th Dan black belt. Steve from Elie received the award in recognition of his time, contribution and achievements within the sport. A relatively late starter to Shotokan karate, Steve worked his way through the ranks since Shotokan 2000 karate association was formed 13 years ago. In this time he has trained and taken classes consistently under chief instructor James Ford 6th Dan, competed in sport karate throughout Scotland, including Glasgow and Edinburgh, helped teach at classes within fife and has represented the association at full contact knockdown events. Having run his own club since 2004 in Anstruther, Steve has produced several club champions and two black belt students and hopes to make it a hat-trick of black belts later this year. Steve also assists to promote karate by doing local demonstrations and currently visiting his local primary school with an introductory level of karate skills at their after school club Commenting on his award Steve remarked "I'm very honoured to receive my 4th dan and whilst I may not have the most glittering karate career in terms of competition, I have been lucky to gain so much knowledge from training with really good instructors, I can look back and say I have put myself on the mat or in the ring and given it a go and it's this ethic I try to encourage my students to adopt. Karate can give you so many benefits in your life if you are prepared to commit to it from the very beginning" See Photos
